Loop

Spring 2017
Design studio - Single family house

Both loops and looping use looped structures to organize their programs. While the organization of a single family house featrues a hierarchical loop of private and public programs, the Jung’s institute adopts a continuous looping sequence, resulting in the use of both the terms loops and looping.

The project takes inspiration from Koolhaas Villa Dall'ava, utilizing the diagonal angle, pocket space, and implied loop from Koolhaas' plan as a foundation. The original base form undergoes a series of deformations, resulting in a three-dimensional slanted structure featuring four pocket spaces and four implied loops. Together, these elements create a gradient of private and public spaces within the house, with the angled walls providing a clear direction for the loops. At the end of these circulating spaces, the four pocket spaces provide areas for privacy and rest, with apertures connecting the implied loops.
